Shaqiri Has Eyes for England

Shaqiri sets his sights on England

Brendan Rodgers said he wanted to get his transfer business done early and it looks like this time it looks like that wasn’t a private joke between him and the Liverpool board. With a bid for Adam Lallana already tabled — as well as heavy links to highly rated youngsters Emre Can and Alberto Moreno — the transfer window is showing some serious promise before it’s even opened for business.

With the rigours of Champions League football just over the horizon, the Reds have been linked with a crop of quality talent from across Europe and one name that’s consistently popped up is Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri. Though capturing the 22-year old firecracker seemed like a mere pipe-dream when we apparently inquired about taking him on-loan in January, a move now seems all the more plausible with the player himself confirming that the Premier League is a viable option for him.

Although he was often the go-to man from the bench for Munich boss Pep Guardiola, the Swiss international was left dreaming of bigger, better things. “It’s clear I cannot continue like this,” he said of his chances at the German giants. “If nothing changes, I will have to make some changes myself. I want to play in the important games as well, and not just in the Bundesliga. I don’t want to go through another year like this.”

While most players would soil themselves repeatedly to grace a team of Bayern’s quality, Shaqiri is ready to step out of the shadows of the side and really make a contribution — or, he’s going to pack his things and possibily head for jolly ole’ England. “I only want to play for a major club,” continued the 22-year old. “The Champions League is important to me, but we will see what happens. England would be an option. If I were to leave Bayern, it will be for a foreign club. But it will have to be a club challenging for the title.”

With Anfield outfit missing out on the title by a mere two points last season, we’re looking more and more like we fit the bill.
