Luis Suarez Returns to Uruguay Training

Back in the saddle again

With Uruguay set to kick off their World Cup campaign against Costa Rica in less than two weeks time, La Celeste have been handed a big boost with Luis Suarez returning to training a mere eleven days after going under the knife.

The Liverpool striker, who quickly underwent knee surgery after feeling pain in training, is working on his fitness and, according to the same newspaper that ruled him out of their opening match and painted a grim picture of his chances of participating at all, he’ll start some light jogging this coming Wednesday as long as everything goes well. Over the weekend Suarez’s brother Diego, who the 27-year old is currently staying with, said the talismanic striker was “recovering well” and getting fit “as fast as possible” — looks like he was right.

Despite his injury, the Liverpool striker was named to Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez’s 23-man squad for the final, and though he may only be good enough for the bench in their Group Stage matches, should La Celeste progress to the next round, they could very well have a fully fit and firing Suarez at their disposal.

Or, to be fair, that could come much sooner. The 27-year old has been sending his teammates from the England camp text messages and telling them that he’ll be fit to face them when the two sides square off in what’s surely the choice fixture for Group D. If he’s already back in training, it might be a bit silly to bet against that happening…
