Brondby Will “Go A Long Way” to Bring Daniel Agger Back

Danny has an uncertain future

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 loss at the hands of Danish side Brondby in their first pre-season friendly of the year, there was the kind of light-hearted sentimentality from the club regarding the future of Reds vice-captain Daniel Agger that you would expect from a former club. Now, the whimsical musings have taken on a decidedly harder edge.

“We will work really, really hard to secure Daniel but, as he has said himself, the timing has to be right” club chairman Bech Andersen told 3point.dk. “So let us hope we can tie up the loose ends. When that is, time will tell — but we will go a long way to get him back because it will show just how high we have set the bar. It will show that we have ambitions and will make a lot of fans happy.”

The 29-year old, who is also apparently a target for Barcelona, waxed lyrical about returning to the club he left for Liverpool eight years ago following the friendly, but has since been silent on the matter, instead focusing on earning back his first team spot on Merseyside. The arrival of Dejan Lovren from Southampton has cast further doubt on Agger’s future — something that Andersen would be keen to exploit.

“We will do everything in our power, but it is clear that we also need to be responsible and we need to do what is right at the right time” he said when asked if a move might happen this summer. “But to answer the question: yes, we will do everything that we can, if and when the possibility arises.”
