Marco Reus’s Release Clause Lower Than Quoted?

How much?

The rumours linking Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus to Liverpool refuse to quiet down and new revelations that the wingers buy-out clause is lower than expected only adds fuel to the fire.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £75mil earlier in the transfer window, the Reds are in the market to add a top class attacker to their line-up ahead of a busy season packed with both domestic and European duties. With a move for QPR striker Loic Remy breaking down over a failed medical last month, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers could break the bank as the new season inches closer and Reus could be the player he splashed out on — except, now it appears he won’t have to pay quite as much as initially anticipated.

Speaking to German tabloid Bild, Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed that the 25-year old’s release clause — which is set to come into effect next summer — stands at £19.8mil. That, of course, is quite a bit cheaper than the £27mil that has been touted by both the club and the media all summer. With the winger reportedly rejecting a new contract at the Westfalenstadion, this particular revelation could be of interest to a number of clubs keen to secure his signature.

This, also, comes with a bit of trepidation from Dortmund who said that Rummenigge is “only going to further damage an already tense relationship between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich” and that they will “not discuss any details of our employees’ contracts in public.” Maybe they’ll be interested in discussing it when Liverpool meet them in a pre-season friendly this weekend?
