Marco Reus Hasn’t Been Talking to Bayern Munich Reveals Agent

Keeping quiet

We’ve spent a disproportionate amount of time talking about Bayern Munich and German football clubs in general over the last couple of weeks and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change anytime soon with Liverpool set to host Borussia Dortmund at Anfield this weekend and suspected target Marco Reus’s agent continuing to stir the pot over a transfer.

Although the Reds have never officially acknowledged the rumours linking them with the 25-year old winger, the media continues to tout the connection as the Premier League side look to recruit reinforcements following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona early last month. Liverpool are flush with cash after selling the Uruguayan, and though Reus looks almost certain to move to Bayern Munich following revelations from their chairman that his release clause is actually lower than expected, the player’s agent has confirmed that talks have yet to be held with the Bavarians.

“We had no contact with Bayern” was the blunt response from his agent Dirk Hebel when asked if his client was in talks to move to the Allianz Arena this summer. This, of course, has increased speculation regarding his future with a host of English clubs — including the Reds — rumoured to be interested in securing his services. Dortmund, as always, are sticking to their story that he’s not for sale. “Marco is not only a hugely important player for us because of his athletic performance, but also in his role as a poster boy” said sporting director Michael Zorc. “He is Dortmund-born and a figurehead for this club.”

Reus’s buyout clause, rumoured to be £27mil, is set to come into effect next summer, but after he rejected a new contract with the German giants, it came to light that it’s actually quite a bit cheaper at only £19.8mil. Should Die Schwarzgelben be unable to convince him to take a new deal, they risk having the clause come into effect and essentially be muscled out of negotiations should a bidder meet the asking price — a situation they’d rather not come up considering they could sell him at a premium right now.
