CONFIRMED: Martin Kelly Moves to Crystal Palace

All the best Martin

Although it has yet to be confirmed by the club, earlier today Liverpool defender Martin Kelly announced his move to Premier League side Crystal Palace on his official Twitter account.

The move, which is rumoured to be for a fee of £1.5mil, is expected to be announced by both sides later today. Hampered by injuries, the 24-year old made just eight appearances under Reds boss Brendan Rodgers last season as the Anfield outfit narrowly missed out on securing their first title of the Premier League era. The defender tweeted his appreciation for the staff at Liverpool, as well as the fans, who supported him since he was handed his first senior appearance for the club by former boss Rafa Benitez against French side Lyon back in 2009.

Earlier in the summer Kelly spoke of his frustration at being repeatedly sidelined by injury and how difficult it is to break your way back into the team after being out for so long. Though he wanted to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool, a move away looked to be his best chance at finding first team football with both Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan and new loan signing Javier Manquillo ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order.

The 24-year old becomes Eagles boss Tony Pulis’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of striker Fraizer Campbell from relegated Cardiff City and defender Brede Hangeland on a one year contract after being released by Fulham.

We wish Martin all the best in his future endeavors.
