Jon Flanagan in Line for Anfield Contract Extension

Flanno wants to stay for as long as possible

There’s really no question that Liverpool fullback Jon Flanagan proved a lot of people wrong last season. With both Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson struggling with injuries, the youngster stepped up and showed Reds boss Brendan Rodgers and Kopites everywhere what he’s made of.

Now, the 21-year old is set to extend his stay at Anfield by signing a new contract with the club. “There have been some talks and I should be signing a new contract soon,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “It would be reward for all the hard work I’ve put in. It would be great for me and great for my family as well. All I’ve ever wanted is to play for Liverpool and I want to stay here for as long as I possibly can.”

Rodgers has moved to try to shore up the defense during the transfer window and has brought in two fullbacks in Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo. Although that just increases competition for spots in what’s already a large squad, this doesn’t concern Flanagan one bit.

“A massive club like Liverpool are always going to sign top players,” continued the defender. “Moreno and Manquillo play in my position, but that will just make me work harder. Having good players around you pushes you on.”
