Lazar Markovic Itching to Prove His Worth

Itching to go

It’s not always easy for young players with big price tags to live up to the massive pressure placed on their shoulders, but Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic is looking forward to proving that the hype surrounding him since his £20mil move from Benfica is more than warranted.

The youngster played a cameo role against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur after missing out on the season opener through injury, but now that he’s fully fit again, the 20-year old is looking to play a far larger part in the Reds fortunes. “I can’t wait to play at Anfield for the first time” the Serbian attacker told the Liverpool ECHO. “I am very excited. I’ve watched other games at Anfield from the stands but hopefully this time I’ll be out there. I know the atmosphere will be amazing and I want to sample that. The team is in a good moment after the win at Tottenham and I want to help us build on that.”

The Reds will be looking to build on their good start to the season when they return to action against Aston Villa later on in the day. With two wins out of their opening three matches, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will want to keep the momentum they built up during their 3-0 win over Spurs last time out. A result against the Villains will set them up nicely for their first Champions League match since 2009 when they host PFC Ludogrets at Anfield on Tuesday — something that Markovic is thankful he’ll be in contention for.

“I’m feeling good physically. The injury was annoying and it meant I wasn’t able to play as much as I wanted but that’s behind me now” he said in the build-up to the Villa match. “Whether I start or not is down to the manager but I’m prepared and I want to get out there and show the fans what I can do.”
