Injured Daniel Sturridge Excused from England Duty

Staying home

England boss Roy Hodgson has avoided evoking the wrath of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers by leaving striker Daniel Sturridge out of the Three Lions squad for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The 25-year old, who injured his thigh while training with the international set-up during his last spell away from league action, is yet to return for the embattled Reds who are without a win in their last three domestic outings and floundering in the Champions League. In the immediate aftermath of the injury, Rodgers had some stern words for the England management and his line has only continued to stiffened as the full brunt of Sturridge’s injury is felt at Anfield.

“I spoke to Roy. I am not sure if Daniel will be fit for the weekend so I think at this moment he won’t be in the squad” said the Northern Irishman when asked before the squad was announced if the injured striker would be called up to play for his country even if he wasn’t quite up to par in the fitness stakes. “I think over the next couple of weeks Daniel has to get up to speed and hopefully after the international break he will be able to play for us, which is the priority.”

Although he’s only been at Anfield, and a regular part of the England set-up, for a short while, this isn’t the first time Sturridge has been involved in a club vs country row. It’s not too often you get to credit Hodgson for doing the right thing, he’s got it spot on this time — though you get the feeling this won’t be the last tug-of-war we have with him.

typical selfish Liverpool fan, better for who?(rhetorical) Imagine if LvG had said this (lamb to the slaughter)? Brendan definite-ly needs to get a grip. Do any Liverpool fans know when Rodgers will stop talking about Suarez? Maybe he and Stevie G need bereavement counselling for the loss of Louis and the death of the dream of winning the league.

THIS DOES NOT F****** SLIP NOW

The injury of DS caused us to loose what? 8 points in the EPL and 3 points in the CL…

That could be the difference between us qualifying for the CL and the tittle in the EPL.

Your rhetorical question can be met with a series of other ones.

Do you think calling up a player that’s injured just for the sake of calling him up makes sense for England?

Would running the very real possibility of aggravating his injury further do the country any good? Or could it hurt them long term if Sturridge is ruled out for longer?

Does having the player stay at Liverpool with the medical team that knows him best to recuperate while England face countries that they should beat handily even without him not make sense to you?

Does this have anything to do with Luis Suarez or was he even mentioned once in this article?

Is your grasp on reality tenuous at best? Do you see spots? Do the voices tell you to do things you know you shouldn’t?

Quit holding your breath — you’re killing braincells.

It makes a massive difference and, in my opinion anyway, has had a massive effect on the integration of new players into the squad.

Our attack was 3 players, one was sold and the other is injured so of course we are having integration problems right now. It is not really the fault of BR.
