Daniel Sturridge Expected to be Sidelined for Six More Weeks

Six more weeks

Now, in news that no Kopite wants to hear, the talking heads in the media and supposed Anfield insiders are predicting that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge will be sidelined until the New Year with his latest injury set-back.

The 25-year old, who has had a pair of thigh injuries to bookend the calf problem that initially scuppered hopes of a return to Premier League action last month, was supposedly in-line to feature when the Reds square off against Crystal Palace on Sunday after re-joining first team training at Melwood. Instead of that, he’s back on the treatment table with scans on Tuesday revealing a different problem to the original issues he’d been hampered with.

Although the club has refused to offer a time-line for his recovery at this early stage, the club did confirm some of the facts that we already knew to be true. “Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury” read a brief statement on the official website. “The player will remain unavailable for selection but will be monitored and assessed during his recovery.”

With ten weeks on ice already in the bag, six more weeks will rule the striker, who has played only a shade over 60% of the matches that he’s been available for since joining the Anfield outfit at the beginning of 2013, out of the all important — and extremely busy — Festive Fixture period. If Crimbo wasn’t depressing for you already, you may be in for an all new holiday experience this year…
