Nathaniel Clyne Looking for Reds Title Tilt and More Happy Days

With the new season set to kick-off on Sunday, the optimism generated by pre-season friendlies and transfer dealings is still lingering among sections of Liverpool supporters, but following a disaterous end to last season, there won’t be too many that’ll be realistically tipping their side to bring home the title come May. That being said, it hasn’t stopped Anfield new-boy Nathaniel Clyne from dreaming big.

“Two seasons ago, Liverpool were pushing and nearly won the league, so we’re not too far away and with the additions to the team this year, we are looking to push on again,” explained the Liverpool fullback. “Hopefully we can push for the title this season,” he continued. “You can see with the team and the quality that we have got that we can have a special season.”

The Anfield outfit have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in Clyne from Southampton in a deal that could be worth up to £12.5mil to the Saints as well as six other players thus far. With long serving defender Glen Johnson released at the end of last season and Jon Flanagan still on the mend following knee surgery, the 24-year old was a natural choice to bring in after impressing both domestically and internationally.

“If you work hard you get the big opportunity and chance to play at a big club like Liverpool,” said the Reds defender. “We had a great season at Southampton and had one of the best defensive records in the league. That put my name on the map,” added Clyne before hinting that he’ll be fighting to play as much as possible. “I think it’s important to get as much game-time in as you can while you are young. I’ve worked my way up through the leagues and now I’m here at a top club like Liverpool so happy days.”
