AS Roma Reportedly Interested in Reds Defender Mamadou Sakho

It looks like Italian side AS Roma will not only beat Liverpool to the signing of highly rated Paris St. Germain fullback Lucas Digne, but the Giallorossi are also rumoured to be interested in taking the Reds best defender to the Stadio Olimpico with Mamadou Sakho’s future at Anfield in question.

While there’s little suggestion that this story has any legs with the club unlikely to be interested in selling, there have been strong suggestions in the media that boss Brendan Rodgers is set to hand Dejan Lovren, who is yet to fully settle on Merseyside after his big-money move from Southampton last summer, a starting role in the heart of the Liverpool defence alongside long-serving center-half Martin Skrtel. This, of course, hasn’t sat well with the Reds faithful and it’s unlikely that the big Frenchman is all too pleased with it either.

Although Sakho reportedly remains in the Northern Irishman’s plans for the season, he missed out on a place in the squad entirely as Liverpool got their Premier League campaign off to a good start with a narrow win over Stoke City on Sunday. Ahead of Monday’s clash with top-flight newcomers AFC Bournemouth, the 25-year old did feature in a behind closed doors meeting with Welsh side TNS alongside the likes of Alberto Moreno and Lucas Leiva — two other players that missed out on being named in the side that faced the Potters.

With a Champions League campaign on the horizon, Roma supremo Rudi Garcia is looking to strengthen his back-line after seeing Alessio Romagnoli shipped off to AC Milan last week for a cool £20mil. Along with the Reds defender, the Giallorossi are also reportedly interested in Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, but they won’t have an easy time prying him away either with the Ligue 1 outfit keen on retaining his services.
