Shakhtar Donetsk Confirm €70mil Asking Price for Reds Target Alex Teixeira

If Liverpool’s chances of signing Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira didn’t already look grim, the Ukrainian outfit have continued to pile dirt on the deal with chief executive Sergei Palkin telling the Reds that they can forget signing the Brazilian this January — unless they want to stump up €70mil for him.

“Liverpool stopped at the amount of 32million Euros and 4million bonus,” he told Ukrainian TV as reported by the Liverpool ECHO. “This is the last number that was announced. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today,” he continued, before leaving the door open to the 26-year old departing in the summer. “We will sell only at the end of the season. We need to show serious results in the Europa League and the championship of Ukraine. At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table.”

That, of course, isn’t at all what the player wants. In an exclusive interview with Reds fan-site Anfield HQ earlier in the week, Teixeira confirmed that not only does he want to leave the Miners by the end of the month, but that he wants to move to Liverpool. With the two sides at a massive impasse over his valuation, it sounds like he’s got another couple months in the Ukraine to look forward to.

“Teixeira has compensation in his contract and the price is 70million Euros,” explained Palkin, apparently goading the Anfield outfit over their offer. “Please, if someone is going to trigger that let him come and declare himself,” added the Shakhtar executive. “Our coach (Mircea Lucescu) wants Teixeira to remain until the end of the season. We must adhere to a common goal.”
