Leipzig Won’t Let Forsberg Leave, Sevilla Inquire About Sakho

After the youngest Liverpool starting eleven in the club’s history ran out a dour, scoreless draw with League Two side Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup yesterday, the depth of the Reds squad was called severely in to question with the Anfield outfit now having to pencil in a replay with the Pilgrims to add to an already packed January fixture list.

Although they’re being tipped to address that problem this January by drafting in at least one attacking reinforcement, it sounds like that won’t be Red Bull Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg. His agent may be giving it the big one, refusing to rule out a move to a “big club” this winter, but the Bundesliga side aren’t playing that game.

“I can promise you that Emil will be here until [the end of the season] in any case,” clarified RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick, throwing some serious shade on Forsberg’s party. “And hopefully for a long period after that, too.”

Moving on to the other half of the pitch, Liverpool may not have been successful quite yet in their attempts to shift misfit defender Mamadou Sakho off the wage bill this month, but it’s not for a lack of trying. While the Frenchman continues to be linked with all the usual suspects in the Premier League, interest from abroad is heating up as well with the “sources” over at Sky Sports saying that Europa League holders Sevilla have made an approach for the 26-year old. Despite only playing for the u-23 side since falling out with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp over the summer, Sakho’s stock remains high with the club rumoured to be holding out for a fee somewhere in the region of £20mil for the powerful defender. Now, whether or not the Andalusian club will be able to pony up that kind of cash remains a matter open to debate, Liverpool could be open to negotiations if it gets him out of England — we may not fancy him anymore, but we certainly don’t want to have to play against him.
