Henderson “Will Not Be Ready” for Arsenal Visit Says Reds Boss

Liverpool supporters have been dealt another bit of bad news after watching their side go down to Premier League strugglers Leicester City at the King Power Stadium last night with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp downcast on captain Jordan Henderson’s chances of facing Arsenal at the weekend.

The 26-year old was sorely missed as the Foxes climbed out of the relegation zone with a Jamie Vardy double and a wonder-strike from compatriot Danny Drinkwater propelling the manger-less side to victory over their heavily favored visitors. There were fears that Henderson would be out for a substantial period of time after injuring his foot in training, but there has been confirmation that the knock wasn’t quite as bad as initially expected with scans confirming that it’s heavy bruised rather than broke. With that being said, Klopp doesn’t sound too optimistic about his chances of featuring in the near future.

“What means long term?” asked the German manager, waxing quizzical and staying non-commital when asked about the skipper. “It looks like he will not be ready for Arsenal, that’s how it looks,” added the manager matter of factly, keen not to give too much away. “But I am not sure, we will see.”

Emre Can, who has been terribly inconsistent throughout the campaign, set up Philippe Coutinho for Liverpool’s only goal of the night as an unlikely comeback looked on the cards for a short spell late on, but the German midfielder failed to fill the captain’s boots on the night. While he still comes in for criticism now and again, when the Reds are at their best, Henderson is often at the centre of it. Leading the league in passing stats — for both total passes and those played within the final third — he’ll be a big loss at the weekend as the Anfield outfit looks to once again bounce back from a disappointing result. More on this when we have some sort of idea of how long he’ll be out of action…
