I wish I could say I’m surprised at the loss to Atletico, but having them get a goal over on us, on the first leg, does not surprise me in the least bit. The only reason that I’m not drinking myself into a stupor right now1 is the knowledge that the second leg will be played at Anfield.
Once again, I was totally off with my predictions of who would be in the starting XI. Neither Aquilani nor Babel made it. Rafa elected to go with Ngog up top because why go with experience or two strikers when you have a single unskilled, young Frenchman that you can put out for the defensive wolves to chew up.2 Freakin’ Aquilani could probably play as a striker or off of the center forward. I think that would be a better use of the club’s money rather than having him sit on the bench. I’m getting sick of hearing that we need to buy players when the manager refuses to use the ones that he does buy.
We were absent in an attack, though the linesman wasn’t helping with that either as he disallowed one goal by Benayoun. One defensive blunder sent the Reds into a deficit after only 9′. And I was just thinking how solid our back four had seemed lately. Luckily, that was the only damage done. Being a goal down, going into the second leg, is nothing new for us. Lille and Benfica were the same story. The difference now is that we do not have Torres and have to find some alternate form of attack. Then again, against Benfica, he did not score until we were already leading. It is possible to win without El Niño. We have done it before and will do it again.

I know right?! Why have Aquilani at all, if you don’t intend on playing him? I think LFC should sell him at a loss like they did with Robbie Keane….
I am not sure if Aquilani could have been a better striker than Ngog but I am quite sure that my great aunt would have been better than Egg Nog.
Ngog played tonight?
