Anzhi Makhachkala (1) Liverpool (0): Try to Act Surprised

Click on Lacina for the highlights…errr…lowlights.
A bit of skill from Lacina Traoré in the first half injury time was enough to put big spending Anzhi Makhachkala top of Europa League Group A after the Liverpool youngsters failed to impress in Russia. Brendan Rodgers rested a number of key players ahead of this weekend’s trip to Stamford Bridge and this youthful side — conservatively spiced with the bit part players — weren’t sent out with the expectation of taking full points.

Though the boss might argue otherwise, there weren’t too many of us that expected more than what we got. A half-decent run out for Adam Morgan and Conor Coady gave us a glimpse of what the future might offer, but it was dire from the onset. Passes and possession without penetration brought nothing in the way of passion; surprisingly, that wasn’t all our fault. Brendan Rodgers put a side out there that was looking for a draw, but Guus Hiddink had his A-Team on display — though you’d never know it. Still, they did what they set out to do; it may have been a bit tiresome for all involved, but a win is three points and that’s more than we got out of Russia with.

Roll on Chelsea? Quite right.

Steven McMillan

Can’t find up from down or tell black from white, but doesn’t care cause it’s all Red to him. When he’s not pissing and moaning about all things Liverpool, he’s chatting nonsense with his multiple personalities — or his “entourage” as he likes to call them.

Coates was god awful. Definitely the wrong man in that position today, but hell who else do you put there with the squad that was available?

nevertheless a good run out for the kids. it was a calculated risk given the resources at hand now. We beat Young Boys at home and we move on, Yes we lost 3 points but with Chelsea looming there is more at stake than just pride. Can we do it against Chelsea. Yes we can.

Last night was about getting the match done- out of the way. This competition is a pest, a hindrance. The travel and number of games totally degrades what used to be a credible trophy. BR did te correct thing last night. This week is all about Sunday…..

i dont know why stevie g aint being utilised as an emergency striker until january, he’s holding us back in midfield and could do a proper job up front. amazed at the ‘groundhog’ effect watching liverpool play this season.

How can you be confident that we will beat Chelsea, we struggle to win games because we struggle to finish chances and Chelsea are clinical, this isnt last years Chelsea, they have Oscar, Hazard and Mata and will tear us to pieces because they simply have better players, they have been the best side in the league this year and was robbed against United…..I think we have to expect the loss but hope for a good performance

it is being positive so they say. fans being positive gives confidence to the team.
We can beat any team on our day. Lets give some positive vibes to the team. when they see
our support it will turn to wins. lets not turn against BR now. I can’t imagine going tru another change in
    management.
