Tottenham Enter the Race for Liverpool Target Willian

Willian battles for the ball while we battle for his signature
The News Desk was hoping for something positive coming out of the Liverpool camp this morning regarding their chase for Anzhi Makhachkala attacking midfielder Willian, but, with little surprise, all we know for sure is that Tottenham have entered the race and are willing to go head to head with the Reds for the signature of the talented Brazilian.

It’s believed that both clubs have entered into negotiations with the Russian club and have lodged similar bids thought to meet the asking price of £28mil. While neither club can offer the allure of Champions League football, Spurs, in the very least, have European football to look forward to and will meet Dinamo Tbilisi is the Europa League Playoff Round this coming Thursday; whether that will be enough to separate the two sides remains to be seen. Yesterday, which was considered a sort of D-Day in Liverpool’s pursuit of the player, came and went without incident and it’s believed that he will make a decision on his future – and the rival bids – within the next 48-hours.

Heading into the weekend and their 1-0 win over Stoke City, the Reds were leading the pack for Willian’s signature with a number of positive quotes coming out of the Brazilians camp; with Tottenham entering the race, things are less assured. Gareth Bale is still odds on favorite to join Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer and the Brazilian attacking-midfielder is being seen as a direct replacement for the Welsh goal-getter. The odds of the 25-year old making the switch to London has moved fromm 16/1 to 10/11 in a matter of hours according to Sky Bet while a trip to Anfield has shifted to evens. With time ticking down in the transfer window, if the punters are getting it right, we may be going a disappointing 0/3 in the big name column.

Don’t worry about it. ITK “sources” all make up stories like this all the time. AVB has come out on Spurs sites today saying categorically that Spurs HAVE NOT put in a bid for Willian.

he may be telling the truth and they may have not submitted a formal bid at this point, but that doesn’t mean they’re not talking to Anzhi about Willian…

have a sneaking suspicion he’ll be wearing White by the end of the week.
