Andre Wisdom Set for Derby County Loan Alongside Reds Target Will Hughes

Good luck at Derby
The news might have been delayed somewhat, but it looks like Andre Wisdom is finally going to get that loan everyone was expecting – and he’s going to end up playing alongside one of Liverpool’s long term targets. We spent the entire summer waiting for the promising defender to be sent out on a developmental loan and even waited patiently for confirmation on transfer deadline day as Brendan Rodgers signed two defenders only for Wisdom to remain at Anfield following an injury to Glen Johnson.

The News Desk has been waiting for this moment for quite some time and if reports in this morning’s press are to be believed, Derby County will be the England u21 captain’s home for the remainder of the campaign – though, in typical Liverpool fashion, there has been no official confirmation from the club; not yet anyways.

Wisdom, who has made a pair of appearances for the Reds in the league so far this season, is sitting quite a ways down the Anfield pecking order with both Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling apparently ahead of him for the right-wingback slot in Rodgers new look 3-5-2 formation and everyone, including the kit-man, ahead of him for a central role. Derby County boss Steve McLaren is said to have made an inquiry for the versatile center-back who could benefit greatly from the physical demands of the Championship. Not only that, but he’ll get to play in the same side as – and possibly encourage – Reds target Will Hughes.

The attacking midfielder is said to be top of Brendan Rodgers wish list, along with scores of other Premier League clubs, for the January transfer window. The Reds were said to be close to a £10mil deal during the summer, only for the deal to fall apart in the closing stages. Ex-Rams boss Nigel Clough was resigned to losing the “wonder kid” only to have him remain at Pride Park to play under former England manager Steve McLaren. Now, no one is saying that Andre has been sent to Derby on a mission to convince young Will that his future is at Anfield, but at 6’1, he does cut an imposing figure…
