VIDEO: Steven Gerrard Freekick Keeps Things Level at the Break

Steven Gerrard Super Free Kick Goal vs Hull City by lfmostar

With Daniel Sturridge ruled out for up to eight weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in training, we knew goals would have to come from somewhere; we also knew that Steven Gerrard could be the man to provide them.

On-loan Tottenham midfielder Jake Livermore got Hull City off to a roaring start when his rasping low drive deflected off Martin Skrtel to loop over a diving Simon Mignolet. Neither team looked particularly strong up to that point, but when you fall behind, you have no choice but to look for a response — and that’s exactly what Steven Gerrard is for.

Last weekend it was Luis Suarez scoring a magical free-kick in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Everton, and this week it was the Skipper. In the buildup, Hull defender Curtis Davies picked up a yellow card for a mistimed tackle on Jordan Henderson, leaving the free kick in perfect range for Gerrard. The shot, which bent around the wall with mere inches to spare, left former Rangers ‘keeper Alan McGregor with no chance and Hull manager Steve Bruce with a lot to think about going into the break.
