Suarez Rehabilitation On Track

Up and kicking

With less than two weeks separating the Uruguayan national team from the start of the World Cup, the boys in blue have received a big boost with star striker Luis Suarez’s rehabilitation coming along nicely.

It’s been sixteen days since the 27-year old went under the knife to correct a knee problem after feeling pain in training. There were fears that he could be ruled out of this summer’s show-piece event altogether with the average recovery time for lateral meniscus surgery in the region of six-weeks, but according to reports coming out of South America, the striker was on the pitch today and kicked a ball for the first time since having the problem corrected.

According to Uruguayan media outlet Ovacion, Suarez played some short passes and worked on headers during a training session today, while football website Tenfield reports that he’s walking, running a little and working with the ball — encouraging news for both Uruguay and Liverpool fans.

While it would be selfish to hope the South American was ruled out of the tournament altogether, Reds fans everywhere will be concerned with his long-term fitness should he be rushed back too soon. Uruguay boss Oscar Tabarez told the media that his rehabilitation was proceeding well and he’s not ruling out an earlier than expected return for the 27-year old. “We have great hopes of Suarez playing at the World Cup. I wouldn’t assure it will be in the first match but nor are we ruling that out.”

I hope the club steps in and asses our biggest asset if fit to be back playing so soon.

I would think the club would have some sort of say in this, but there’s absolutely no way they’d be able to keep him from playing.

If Suarez can hobble around, he’s going to be out there — which is both a massive plus since he’d do the same for Liverpool, but it’s also a massive fault cause he could fuck himself up even worse trying to do things he’s not quite ready for.
