CONFIRMED: Brad Smith Joins Swindon Town on Loan

Best of luck

Following the departure of Conor Coady to Huddersfield Town two days ago, Liverpool can confirm another youngster is leaving Anfield, but this one won’t be on a permanent basis with Brad Smith set to link up with League One side Swindon Town for the up coming year.

The 20-year old, who made his first team debut in the closing stages of the Reds narrow loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge over the festive fixture list, has been farmed out to gain some much needed experience. Although he looked like a real player in his brief cameo, a step down to some lower league football and a regular place in the squad will do him good as he looks to crack the first team in the coming years.

With the likes of Jose Enrique, Jon Flanagan and potentially Alberto Moreno ahead of him in the pecking order, Smith would have found his chances few and far between at Anfield — even in the early rounds of domestic cup competitions.

The youngster joins the likes of Andre Wisdom, who has been loaned to Derby County for the upcoming campaign, in moving away from Merseyside in order to gain valuable first team experience. Suso, Fabio Borini, Pepe Reina and Oussama Assaidi all excelled while plying their trade elsewhere, though three of those four are expected to no longer be wearing the famous Red shirt by the end of this month.

So — yeah. Take that as you will.
