Australia & Asia Returns for the Reds as Pre-Season Tour Planning Starts

Liverpool on tour

We may only be half-way through the current season, but Liverpool are already making plans for their annual pre-season tour with a return to Australia and Asia on the cards for the Reds this coming summer.

Although planning is still very much in the early stages, it’s expected that they’ll play out a four match run abroad with meetings in Asia sandwiched between a pair of fixtures in Australia with Adelaide and Brisbane expected to play host to the five time European champions. The Reds last tour down under was a smashing success with a whopping 95,000 supporters turning out to see them at the Melbourne Cricket Ground two years — success the club will hope to match next time around.

While the Australian leg of the journey is expected to be finalized and officially announced by the end of the month, the matches in Asia could be a bit longer in the making. Liverpool are expected to visit both China and Indonesia this summer, though there is a chance that the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur could be in the running to host a match.

It’s been two years since the Reds last visited Indonesia when a crowd of over 80,000 people watched them beat a selected Indonesia XI in the capital city of Jakarta; they look to be the front-runner for a spot on the tour with the country’s national airline — Garuda Indonesia — the shirt sponsor for Liverpool’s training kit. A return to China, where they beat Guandgdong Sunray Cave 4-3 back in the summer 2011, is highly anticipated to be the other stop on the Asian leg of the tour where a match in Macau is expected.
