Liverpool Nervously Await Results of Mamadou Sakho Scan

This could be bad

Liverpool may have booked themselves a trip to Wembley after overcoming Championship side Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup quarter-final replay last night at Ewood Park, but the club has a nervous wait ahead of them with defender Mamadou Sakho set to have a scan on his injured hamstring later today.

The Frenchman, who has been a calming, ever present force in the Reds back-line since returning from injury mid-December, limped off less than a half-hour into last night’s narrow win. After being battered at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend, Liverpool looked to be in for more of the same with their game plan once again faltering, but the Premier League giants were saved some rather embarrassing blushes when Philippe Coutinho found the winner with 20-minutes left to play.

A trip to Wembley will be a welcome morale boost for players and supporters alike, but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will be hoping he’ll have the Frenchman in tow when they run out against the Villians next Sunday. This, of course, isn’t the first time that Sakho has had problems with his hamstring. The injury prone 25-year has a history of niggles with a similar incident earlier on in the season, as well as last December, keeping him out of action for a significant amount of time.

Although Emre Can will be back when Newcastle United visit on Monday following his one match suspension, the Reds will still be without veteran defender Martin Skrtel as he serves the final match of his three match ban for stomping on Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea. With Liverpool once again looking disorganized at the back after keeping things tight for such a long stretch, losing Sakho for any stretch of time will only disrupt things further.

More on this if the club decides to update us…
