Reds to Make Bolton ‘keeper Adam Bogdan Third Signing of Summer

With Simon Mignolet turning around his form during the second half of the season, Liverpool look set to stay the course with the Belgian for at least the time being. After releasing reserve ‘keeper Brad Jones at the end of his contract, speculation was mounting as to who would be brought in, it looks like the Reds have moved quick to fill the gap with Bolton Wanderers ‘keeper Adam Bogdan rumoured to be on his way Merseyside.

The 27-year old is out of contract with the Championship side on July 1st and he’s being highly tipped with a move to Merseyside with boss Brendan Rodgers said to have had his interest peaked following the Hungarians man of the match performance against the Anfield outfit during their FA Cup fourth round clash back in January. Having already turned down the chance to extend his deal with the Wanderers, according to a number of sources talks have already taken place with the player and his representatives with an announcement set to come from the club in the coming days.

Now, whether or not there’s truth in this remains up for debate, but it wouldn’t be all too surprising. Linked with a move for want-away Chelsea ‘keeper Petr Cech and big-dreaming Stoke City man Asmir Begovic throughout much of the campaign, the Reds finally making a move for the vastly cheaper option in Bogdan seems to signal that Mignolet’s place in the starting eleven isn’t under any immediate threat after the Belgian sorted his head out in January. Liverpool betting on him keeping it together over the long term may prove to be costly, but there’s no question that they wouldn’t be able to bring in a higher profile name without assuring them consistent first team football.

Liverpool have already been busy in the market this summer with Manchester City midfielder James Milner set to arrive on another free transfer when his contract expires in July and Danny Ings choosing the Anfield outfit over a host of clubs queuing up for his signature. When the European market officially opens, the Reds are expected to be aggressive in their recruitment with failure to qualify for next seasons Champions League making it both difficult to bring in top drawer talent and crucial that they do to help improve performances in the coming campaign. While Bogdan isn’t likely to influence proceedings too much, there are suggestions from those who know the player that he could very well challenge for a starting spot.
