Jordan Henderson Expects Liverpool to Challenge on All Fronts Next Season

After failing to finish in the top four last season, Liverpool have a big year ahead of them. Although their Europa League commitments are sure to make things tough, Reds captain in waiting Jordan Henderson has stressed that he expects his side to challenge on all fronts next season with both a trophy and a return to Europe’s premier club competition on the agenda.

“Getting back into the Champions League is a big objective for us, but also winning trophies – Liverpool Football Club should be winning trophies every year,” he said, speaking with the club’s official website. So that’s another aim for us. I think it is realistic, with the players we have got and the manager we have got, I feel that we can achieve those things,” continued the 25-year old. “In the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup, we want to be challenging and winning. And obviously in the league, we want to be right up there challenging and hopefully get into the Champions League places as well.”

Six new faces have already been brought in this summer as boss Brendan Rodgers looks to rebuild and reshape a side that could only manage to finish sixth in the league last season. With more signings expected to arrive before the season kicks off in August, the squad will start pre-season training later today ahead of a tour which will see them play matches in Australia, the Far East and Finland — something that Henderson believes will be crucial to the new boys integrating into the team.

“It’s good to go away on pre-season, not just for us as players but for the fans that can’t travel all the way over to England to watch games and training,” Henderson explained ahead of returning to Melwood tomorrow. “It’s important that we go there and they can see us first-hand. And obviously for the players to be together for a couple of weeks is good, to make sure that we’re all on the same page and wanting to do the same thing. For the new lads, it’s a case of getting to know each other and gelling as a team, ready for the first game.”
