Reds Ready to Meet Barcelona in the Middle over Pedro Rodriguez Fee

Now that Raheem Sterling has been shipped off to Manchester City and Liverpool are just bursting at the seams with cash, the Reds look set to follow up on meeting Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke’s release clause with the signing of Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez.

Well, at least that’s what the Spanish papers are saying. The versaitile attacker, who has struggled to break into the Catalan giants first team ahead of the powerhouse trio of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, has already confirmed that his release clause has been lowered from a staggering £130mil to a far more manageable £20.9mil, but according to Sport, he could be heading to Merseyside for a bit less than that.

“It’s true that between both sides, we decided to lower my release clause and there are offers. I’m in a very difficult position at Barcelona, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” said the 27-year old in a recent interview. ” I’m only interested in getting back to work on Wednesday with my teammates and then we’ll see what happens.”

And back to work he went yesterday with the Barcelona first team, but if Liverpool can convince him to trade La Liga for the Premier League, he could be Anfield bound in a move rumoured to be worth £14mil. Of course that’s not quite what they’re looking for, but it is a fee reportedly higher than what Chelsea, who also retain a keen interest in the winger, are willing to part with to bring him to Stamford Bridge — which is probably best for everyone since it’s unlikely that Pedro would be all too pleased when the Blues inevitably loaned him out…

Can we stop going over and over about Pedro. It’s extremely unlikely he will come to us especially as he wants champs league

Pedro is an excellent player but it seems extremely unlikely and he is not where our needs are.

We have 2 keepers so covered.

Concerns over our defence, Clynne looks a great buy and Skertle has been solid, other than that Moreno, Sakho, Lovren and Toure all need to push on, and I don’t even know if Gomez, Wisdom or Illori will get a look in.

Midfield, only Lucas & Allen as holding players unless Can is seen in that role, that then leaves us with Milner & Henderson as the main heartbeat of the team so for me we need to strengthen there too.

Attacking midfielders we have Ibe, Markovic, Lallana, Firmino, Coutinho and only Coutinho can hold his head up high from last year but if Ibe &Markovic can get game time they could make a massive difference.

Strikers we have Sturridge (if fit), Origi and Ings and then another.

So for me, although scoring was our issue last year, creating chances wasn’t so I would be more concerned with getting a quality central midfielder in, a quality striker in (and I would put Benteke in that mould) and cover at left back.

Sort them, then we can try and persuade players like Reus and Pedro to make the jump and be part of something.

Good logic, still things don’t always work in order, as once the concerns are sorted players like Pedro and Reus may no longer be available. Sometimes, you just have to go as players become available and not when you actually want them.

As long as you then address the areas of need, otherwise the balance of the team is wrong and Rodgers can’t afford a repeat of last year.
