Jordan Henderson Sidelined for Up to 2-Months with Foot Injury

Although the club have yet to put a timeline on his return, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expected to be out for the next six to eight weeks after suffering a broken bone in his right foot in training ahead of the Reds meeting with Norwich City at Anfield later today.

The 25-year old, who only just returned to full training after travelling to America to visit a foot specialist for a problem with his heel, has been out of action since the win over AFC Bournemouth last month. Missing the next four matches — including Liverpool’s Europa League bow away to French side Bordeaux — Henderson now has a problem in the other foot with a scan on Friday confirming that he has fractured a bone.

“Very disappointed and frustrated with the injury setback but will work hard to be back as quickly as possible,” tweeted the Reds captain, obviously disappointed, after receiving the results of the scan. “Will be supporting the team in every way I can while I’m unable to play. Thanks for all of your support.”

Henderson has been scheduled to undergo a minor surgery to correct the problem on Monday, but there’s no quick way back from this with the Liverpool medical team estimating that he’ll be sidelined for up to two months as he recovers — which means he could miss up to eleven matches for the Anfield outfit, including the Merseyside Derby at the beginning of October as well as trips to Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea later on in the month. On the international front, he’ll also miss out on England’s next two Euro-2016 qualifiers with Estonia and Lithuania next month as well as being a major doubt for the friendlies with Spain and France in November.
