Jordan Henderson Hails “Outstanding” Liverpool After Etihad Triumph

If Liverpool’s narrow 2-1 loss at the hands of Crystal Palace just before the international break had the squads confidence ebbing low, their 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City at the weekend had the complete opposite effect with confidence around the Reds camp positively soaring following a dominant display — something that captain Jordan Henderson wants to see on a more consistent basis.

“I thought the lads were outstanding from start to finish. Hopefully that can set a standard for us for the rest of the season,” said the skipper, reflecting on Saturday’s performance in Manchester. “That shows how well we can play and we just need the consistency and to keep playing with the freedom that we did on Saturday,” he continued, before singling out Reds boss Jurgen Klopp for some special praise. “The manager has made a big impact and he’s been fantastic for Liverpool and for the Premier League. Hopefully we can keep learning from him and improving.”

Although the Reds are still languishing around mid-table, they’re a team looking very much on the up with the result against the Citizens sure to give them a major boost going into Thursday’s meeting with FC Bordeaux in the Europa League and the match with struggling Swansea City on Sunday — outings that Henderson, who has been out since the end of August with a variety of foot problems, could be in contention to play a part in.

“I’m getting there,” the 25-year old told Sky Sports after being asked when we’ll see him back in action again. “This is one of the longest periods of time I’ve been out for and that has been tough for me,” said the Liverpool captain of his frustrating and prolonged spell on the sidelines before confirming that he’s not far off from getting back in the thick of things. “Hopefully I’m not too far away now.”
