Carragher Wants Liverpool to Sign Reus, Praises Club Over Teixeira Restraint

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has echoed the calls from the Reds fans base for a top quality player to be added to the ranks with the Sky Sports pundit musing that Borussia Dortmund man Marco Reus would be a great fit in Jurgen Klopp’s under-performing squad.

“The squad lacks a top player who can have an immediate impact,” the ex-defender told German tabloid Bild by way of ESPN. “I’d like to see Dortmund’s Marco Reus on the wing,” said the 38-year old Merseyside native. “He’d be a great fit.”

Amid massive speculation over his future, Reus signed a new contract at the Westfalenstadion last year which will only make prising him away from his beloved Dortmund even more difficult. With that being said, Liverpool have shown that they’re willing to back Klopp in the transfer market — and listen to his advice. When Shakhtar Donetsk attempted to hold the club ransom over attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira, who ended up at Chinese club the German manager pulled the plug on the deal, laughing off the €50mil asking price Ukranian club put on his head.

“I think it’s good that Klopp did not stay the pace,” said Carragher when asked about the Teixeira situation. “It was profiteering, and he passed on the quickfire solution,” he continued. “A lot of that [TV] money is wasted. A lot of average players were signed for way too much, and the wages were out of proportion,” complained the outspoken pundit, before adding, “When an English club knocks on a door in Europe, they just add five or 10 million on top of the transfer fee. They milk it.”
