Injury Forces Neil Mellor to Retire at 29

Some sad news passed across our desk this morning with word that former Liverpool player, and current Liverpool fan, Neil Mellor has retired at age 29. The Preston North End striker has endured a career wracked by persistent injuries and has made the tough decision to call time on his playing days. The Sheffield born striker began his professional career on Merseyside after coming up through the ranks of the youth academy and despite his lack of first team appearances, was involved in two of the most memorable Liverpool goals in the past 10 years. His last gasp goal against Arsenal will always be remembered, but possibly not as much as his “lovely cushioned header for Gerrard” which set us on course for Champions League glory in 2005.

Thanks again Neil.
