Sigurdsson Edges Closer to Anfield Switch

Whenever the transfer window opens, the News Desk gets to link the Reds with an entire squad of new players. This time around, the fax machine has been a bit quiet with only one name being consistently linked to us; though it appears we’ll be snatching him up within the next few days. Even though Swansea City have first crack at Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, his move to Wales has broken down after Swans boss Brendan Rodgers took up the vacant managerial post on Merseyside. Even with a £6.8mil deal agreed, there’s been little movement on the Icelandic midfielder prompting suggestions that he’s now Anfield bound, with his proposed fee topping up somewhere around the £8mil mark. There’s strong suggestions that the deal could be completed as early as next week with Rodgers looking to get his Liverpool squad in order before pre-season friendlies, and Europa League qualifiers, swing into gear. Watch this space for more, or possibly less, on this as it either develops or fades into obscurity…

There is no hurry on this as far as Hoffenheim are concerned. They were getting 6.8 from Swansea but seeing as it is now Liverpool in the frame and with our history of dealings we will probably give them 10 or 11 !

i’m sure Hoffenheim will be happy for the additional cash….after what we spent last year, they’ll be expecting a tad bit more from us then what was on offer from the Swans…
