Liverpool Join Race for Adam Johnson

There’s been whispers about Liverpool being in for Adam Johnson, but the surprise signing of Oussama Assaidi was supposed to put those rumors to rest; apparently that’s not the case. It’s been reported this morning that Liverpool has registered an interest in the the £10mil rated winger and now lead the race to sign him after Roberto Mancini said that he’ll be able to leave the reigning Champions this summer. Johnson made only 10 starts last season as the Uber-Star Billionaire Brigade (formerly known as the Citizens) squeaked their first ever Premier League title on the final day. Although Sunderland is the only side to have formerly lodged a bid, it’s believed that Manchester City will listen to other offers for the winger. Brendan Rodgers is believed to be in a buy-to-sell predicament as the owners are hesitant to splash too much cash this summer, but it’s also believed that Johnson has been a long term target and an exception could be made to secure his services. With Craig Bellamy, Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez all leaving Liverpool during the transfer window, Rodgers will be looking to add some width to a very narrow side. The capture of Assaidi is one step towards that and Johnson may be the next.
