Sturridge was a notable absence during Liverpool’s 3-1 loss at the KC Stadium earlier today and Rodgers admitted that the England man will frustrated to miss out on the busy Festive Fixture list. “He’ll be disappointed. It’s a very busy period we’re coming into and we’re a squad that needs as many of our good players as possible” said Rodgers. “It’s not ideal.” Considering the Reds have meeting with Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham on the cards in the coming weeks, that’s a massive understatement.
Compounding problems further, Coutinho could only make the bench today with the boss confirming that he needed injections even for that. The Reds noticeably picked up the pace when the Brazilian entered the fray, but his availability could be in question in the coming weeks. “He had a high ankle sprain and had some injections to even get on the bench today. He did quite well to even make it onto the field” conceded the Reds manager.
Before closing things off, Rodgers also confirmed that Kolo Toure — who came into the side for vice-Captain Daniel Agger following the 3-3 draw with Everton last weekend — picked up a bit of a knock. “Kolo picked up a wee bit of an injury on his hip,” said the Northern Irishman. “We’ll see how he is.” While an injury to any player is never a good thing, at least Liverpool have adequate cover, and fierce competition, for his position.
