With his side sitting in fourth place going into the weekend, Rodgers has nothing to worry about when it comes to job security, but a little bit of glad handing never hurt anyone. “John was a big influence on me coming to the club” the Northern Irishman told the Liverpool ECHO ahead of the weekend when asked about the influence of Henry and Werner. “They have been absolutely outstanding in that commitment in every way. It’s refreshing in the modern game.”
After initially rejecting the advances of the Merseyside club, Rodgers took a meeting with FSG in Boston, and after pressing the Reds hierarchy, the rest is history. “The first time I met him I needed to know the expectation. I just felt it was important in terms of how I work” said the Anfield boss. “I wanted to come to somewhere where I could build something.”
Rodgers has kept the Merseyside club in the title race since the word GO, and with a target of a return to the lucrative fields of the Champions League, he’s certainly been living up to expectations. A thin squad has held the Reds back at points though and this will surely be a topic of conversation when the two meet. Liverpool have been linked with a number of targets since the January transfer window opened and it’s high time they wrapped up a couple of signings.
