If this was what it was like on the trip down, we can only imagine the atmosphere on the way back; you heard the travelling Kop in full voice at St. Mary’s stadium Saturday as the Reds claimed their first win on the South coast in eleven years, and a section of the support got a surprise on the long trip down when they were joined on the coach by Liverpool legend John Barnes.
Digger, who made 314 appearances in the famous Red shirt and scored 84 goals in the process, was the life of the party — posing for photos and even breaking into a rousing rendition of the infamous Anfield Rap as the coach snaked it’s way down to the coast.
Last week Barnes tipped the Reds to finish in third place overall, but after yesterday’s 3-0 win at St. Mary’s kept the pressure up on league leaders Chelsea, he admitted that we could have a shot at claiming our first title of the Premier League era. “Yes we can but if we don’t we’ll be in a great position for next season, we’ve come on leaps and bounds,” said the Reds legend.
