At this time last year, the narrative was all about how Liverpool should be dealing with troubled striker Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan, caught up in the controversy surrounding the ill-mannered biting incident with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, was already showing signs of the temper tantrum that was on the horizon and it’s safe to say he was one of the most riviled — but still respected — players in the Premier League. What a difference a year makes…
As you know already, following Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea yesterday, the 27-year old striker was rightly named the PFA Player of the Year in a gala ceremony in London. The striker, who is the run-away top scorer in the Premier League this season with an astounding 30-goals to his name, was voted the best player in the league by his fellow professionals.
Following the ceremony, the striker dedicated the trophy his family and the supporters who continued to not only believe in him — but also forgave him — during his many struggles with the following message:
“Hi all, just arrived from the awards for best player of the year, I am very happy for this award, thanks to all the players who voted for me, kudos to my colleagues, if it were not for them you would not have received this award. Thanks to my my wife and my two babies. I dedicate it to my children and all the fans who support me.”
There’s a lot of great players in England right now, but was anyone else really going to win? Well in Luis; now, let’s add a Premier League trophy to your cabinet.
