Liverpool look set to get yet another striker off their books with the club rumoured to be in talks to sell want-away attacker Fabio Borini, who has failed to make an impact at Anfield since his £10.5mil move from AS Roma four years ago, to Serie A side Fiorentina in a deal reportedly worth £6mil.
This, you’d do well to forget, is almost £10mil less than what the Reds had agreed to sell the Italian for last summer before moves to both Sunderland, where he had spent the previous season on loan, and Queens Park Rangers, who made a last ditch effort to bring him to Loftus Road on transfer deadline day, were turned down by the 24-year old as he waited in vain for a bigger club to rescue him from his dreadful spell on Merseyside.
The Viola, who have already let veteran hit-man Mario Gomez join Turkish side Besiktas on a season long loan, are short in the attacking department and have been rumoured to have held an interest in Borini for some time now. With the Italian outfit in England yesterday for a friendly with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, there are reports that the clubs hierarchy took full advantage of this opportunity with preliminary talks held between the two sides ahead of a formal bid being lodged later next week.
Leaving him off of their pre-season tour, Liverpool have made it abundantly clear to Borini that there is no place for him at Anfield for the coming campaign. While the Stadio Artemio Franchi looks to be his mostly likely destination, Premier League rivals West Ham United have reportedly also been in contact over the availability of the 24-year old, though the Hammers are rumoured to be interested in a loan deal rather than a permanent move — something the Reds aren’t interested in exploring at this time.
