Liverpool may have quite a few matches to play before the head to Wembley at the end of the month, but with a massive League Cup final with Manchester City looming large on the horizon, Reds midfielder Adam Lallana is in a bullish mood and ready to go on and claim some silverware.
“That’s great confidence,” said the former Southampton man when told that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp had promised that his side would go on to lift the trophy. “You know, I feel a bit like that. We have had a couple of big moments in the last few days. What happened against Norwich isn’t going to happen too often. And then to win in a penalty shootout,” he mused, obviously happy with the way things are going for the Merseyside giants. “It is relentless at the minute but we have got players coming back, like Dejan [Lovren], Phil [Coutinho] and Studge [Daniel Sturridge] won’t be too long either, so it is a massive boost.”
Struggling to impose themselves on the league table, cup competitions have been a welcome distraction for Liverpool with the Anfield outfit through to the knock-out rounds of the Europa League, facing a stern test against West Ham United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on the weekend and sitting only 90-minutes away from lifting the League Cup — which would be their first trophy since the club won this competition under then boss Kenny Dalglish back in 2012.
“It is massive, absolutely massive,” said Lallana of the chance to lift a major trophy with the Reds. “I won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with Southampton at Wembley a few years ago but this is completely different. You might laugh about it but I am proud of that!,” the midfielder said with a laugh. “But this will be completely different. We have got a chance to win a trophy, which is brilliant.”
