Although Turkish side Fenerbahce are rumoured to be exploring the possibility of making Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic’s loan from the Anfield outfit permanent, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has given the Serbian attacker hope of a return to the Premier League by lamenting the lack of width currently in the squad.
“We have enough strikers – five with Roberto (Firmino) – but not too many wingers, just a few young ones with great potential,” explained the German manager. “We have to decide early and at the right moment on transfers, but it is about a squad where you can play different systems and react to different situations.”
With no buy-out clause included in the terms of his loan deal, Liverpool would have the upper hand if negotiations with Fenerbahce became a reality, but it’s been rumoured from the get go that the 21-year old will be given another shot on Merseyside as he looks to justify the massive fee the Reds paid Portuguese club Benfica for his services. With that being said, Klopp has made no mention of Markovic directly and has been clear that the transfer situation at Anfield is constantly evolving.
“It always changes. We went into this season with five centre-halves if you think of Joe (Gomez) and then at one stage we seemed to only have one and a half!” said the former Borussia Dortmund boss with a laugh. “It was like who can we play? So you prepare as much as possible and look for the highest quality you can get,” mused Klopp. “We have to make solutions and we will make solutions. Also maybe players will make solutions and say they do not want to be here any more, so you have to be prepared.”
