Although there was news of Liverpool accepting a bid of £5.5mil from Turkish club Fenerbache for veteran defender Martin Skrtel doing the rounds last week, the 31-year old is yet to finalize a move away from Anfield and in the wake a number of Italian clubs have popped up with an interest in taking him to Serie A — including Inter Milan.
“We’ll know something more soon, in the next few days I think,” his agent Karol Csonto told FCInterNews when asked about their interest in the Slovakian international. “There are several teams interested in the player, including Inter which is a distinct possibility. Martin is a great player,” he continued. “Roberto Mancini? We’re talking about a great Coach, but as I said, we have to wait. Not much longer, but we have to wait.”
Skrtel may have put in an impressive performance against England in the European Championships on Monday as he captained his country to a third place finish in Group B, his days on Merseyside are numbered with an official announcement of where he’ll be playing football next year expected by the end of the tournament. While there’s a good chance he could still end up at Fenerbache with a fee reportedly agreed between the two clubs, it wouldn’t be all too surprising to see him pull on the Blue & Black of Inter Milan either.
During his time at Manchester City, Mancini — who is now in charge of the Nerazzurri — showed a great interest in signing the Slovakian hardman with Liverpool rejecting a number of bids for his services from the then City boss. Investment from China means that the Italians have a significantly expanded budget at their disposal, but a lack of Champions League football restricts their ability to attract top level stars.
