In a bit of surprising news, a late breaking story that’s been repeated across most major media outlets has Liverpool willing to listen to loan offers for defender Mamadou Sakho as the Reds look to get the French defender fit and back up to speed.
Although he was sent home from the pre-season tour of North America due to what has been labelled “multiple disciplinary breaches”, it’s believed that the 26-year old remains very much in Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s plans. Banned since April after testing positive for a prohibited substance only to have it overturned on appeal when UEFA realised that they had made a mistake, the Frenchman was already well short of match fitness before a Achilles injury ruled out him out of the start of the season.
The Reds, as you and everyone else knows, have struggled defensively for quite some time now, but that has been magnified even further on the back of the three goals they conceded away to Arsenal and the pair of first half strikes that earned newly promoted Burnley FC a well deserved win over the Anfield outfit on the weekend. While it might seem a bit counter-productive to send arguably your best defender out on loan in the middle of this, the fact that he may not get the match time needed to regain the kind of sharpness he needed to compete for a first team spot as he recovers would likely be the driving force behind the decision. Any deal, it’s believed would be a short term arrangement with no talk of a permanent switch understood to be on the table. Klopp, for his part, can’t wait for the window to close.
“I really wait for the day when finally the transfer window closes, because I can’t believe how obsessed you all are with this,” fumed the German, speaking to the press ahead of the League Cup meeting with Burton Albion later today. “You don’t believe for a second in things like improvement on the training pitch. I understand that Arsenal was far from a perfect game, but we scored four so everyone could see we could get goals, but we conceded three so obviously we have defensive problems,” he said sarcastically. “If you are not really interested in us, then that’s the way you can see the game,” added Klopp, before saying, “Then we played at Burnley, we had 81 percent possession and didn’t score a goal, so now you can say we need another striker if you want.”
