Speaking to ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Rednapp ahead of their eventual collapse at Dean Court on Sunday, Reds attacker Adam Lallana admitted that he’s felt the pressure at Anfield since making a big money move from Southampton a few years back, but went on to say that there’s no other other place he’d rather be playing football.
“There’s no getting away that Liverpool are this historic club that are renowned for winning trophies,” explained the 28-year old when asked if the history of the club is an inspiration or a burden. “Of course there’s an inexperience in our team of winning league titles but one thing that will help us is the manager. He’s experienced and has won the league with Dortmund, he’s been to the Champions League final,” added Lallana, full of praise for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. “If we trust him, we will be successful.”
Failing to inspire during his first two seasons on Merseyside, the former Saints captain has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance since the German replaced now Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers last fall. Rediscovering his scoring touch in the Premier League and now stepping up on the international stage as well, his uptick in form hasn’t gone unnoticed in Europe with mega-rich French outfit Paris Saint-Germain rumoured to be interested in bringing his talents to Ligue 1.
“I love it here at the minute, especially since the manager has come in,” explained the Reds man. “We have each other’s trust and you don’t always get that at clubs. The thought of leaving Liverpool has never entered my mind,” confirmed Lallana, sounding both dismissive and humble at the same time. “It’s a great compliment to be spoken of in the same breath as a club like PSG with those sorts of numbers, but I’m absolutely loving my football at the minute under this boss and I can only see myself being here for the long term.”
