The Football world has described its ‘heartbreak’ at the tragic passing of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, aged 28.
The Portuguese forward died alongside his brother André Silva, 25, in a car crash in northwestern Spain, according to reports.
Rightfully, the news caused widespread shock amongst the Liverpool and wider football communities. Now players, ex-players, journalists and fans have poured to social media to share their tributes.
Jamie Carragher, Liverpool’s second all-time appearance maker, described the news as “devastating”.

Robbie Fowler, who scored 183 goals for Liverpool during two spells with the club, wrote of his “heartbreak”.

Later, Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo paid tribute in an emotional post saying “it doesn’t make sense”.

Atlético Madrid, Jota’s former club with whom he spent one season during 2016-2017, spoke of their shock.

Football journalist Fabrizio Romano sent his deepest condolences to everyone impacted by Diogo’s passing, before going on to send an additional tribute to Diogo’s brother, Andre.
Diogo Jota’s brother André Silva, 25-year-old Penafiel player in Portuguese 2nd League, has also passed away following the accident.

Current Fiorentina and ex-Manchester United goalkeeper posted a simple five-word response to the news on his Instagram page – “sometimes live is very cruel”.
And finally, Liverpool Football Club, sent a simple statement of devastation before requesting the privacy of Diogo’s family in a simple statement.
