Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has agreed to join Bayern Munich this summer if the German club can negotiate a fee with the Reds, but they are not the only club interested in his signature during the summer transfer window.
Jamal Musiala suffered a broken ankle in Bayern’s 2-0 loss to PSG at the Club World Cup leaving the pitch on a stretcher after a collision with Donnarumma. The Athletic has since reported that Musiala will miss at least four months of action, which has accelerated the need for Bayern to bring in attacking reinforcements and Luis Diaz is on their radar.
The future of Luis Díaz has become a major talking point this summer, with mounting speculation linking the Liverpool winger with a move away from Anfield. Despite a standout 2024/25 season, during which he registered 13 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League — second only to Mohamed Salah — the Colombian finds himself at the centre of transfer interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
After an impressive last campaign, Paul Joyce from The Times suggested Liverpool were sufficiently impressed to consider offering Díaz an improved contract. Currently on £55,000 per week, Díaz is among the lower earners at the club a situation that has reportedly caused discontent and opened the door to a potential exit.
Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona have identified Díaz as a key summer target. According to German outlet BILD, Díaz has already agreed to personal terms in principle with Bayern, who are now preparing to negotiate a transfer fee with Liverpool. The Reds are believed to value him at around €80 million. Bayern’s attacking ranks have also been thinned by the departures of Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Mathys Tel.
Barcelona, meanwhile, have made Díaz their main target after missing out on Nico Williams, who recently extended his contract with Athletic Bilbao. Reports from Mundo Deportivo and Fabrizio Romano suggest the La Liga champions are ready to make a renewed approach, despite already having one formal offer rejected.
Eventhough their are financial difficulties and registration uncertainties. Díaz’s father has previously admitted that a move to the Camp Nou would be a dream for his son and the player himself is reportedly willing to wait for the right time to express his desire to leave.
Díaz is said to be open to both destinations, however he has held off on taking any public stance out of respect for the tragic passing of teammate Diogo Jota, in a car accident last week.
After contributing 17 goals and eight assists in all competitions, the flirtation continues but Liverpool appear to be solid on their decision that he is not for sale.
Paul Joyce of The Times has confirmed that the club are not actively looking to offload the 28-year-old and have no immediate plans to open fresh contract talks, despite his current deal running until 2027.
The Reds have already made major moves in the transfer market, signing Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong (€35m), Florian Wirtz (€100m + €30m add-ons), and left-back Milos Kerkez (£40m) — all on contracts running until 2030. These deals suggest that Liverpool are building for the long term and would be reluctant to weaken their forward line any further, especially after the devastating loss of Diogo Jota.
Letting Díaz go would leave a significant gap in the squad, especially in a market where elite wingers are in short supply and heavily pursued by top clubs. Given Barcelona and Bayern’s aggressive pursuit, Liverpool face a critical decision either secure their winger with a new, improved deal, or risk losing him and scrambling for a replacement in a highly competitive market
