Liverpool are set to return to pre-season training on July 8th, carrying the heavy weight of losing star forward Diogo Jota in a tragic car accident.
Despite the somber mood surrounding the club, new signing Jeremie Frimpong is already showing determination and focus, preparing intensely ahead of his first campaign with the Premier League champions.
Frimpong, Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, joined from Bayer Leverkusen after Liverpool triggered his £29.5 million release clause. The Dutch right-back signed a five-year contract running until 2030, signalling the club’s long term plans as they build on their 2024/25 Premier League triumph.
Ahead of linking up with his new teammates tomorrow, Frimpong has been hard at work to ensure he arrives in peak condition. Personal coach Kwaku Ohemeng shared now-deleted stories on Instagram showing Frimpong completing a series of drills and conditioning exercises in a park in Wilmslow, Cheshire.
His speed, sharp touches, and finishing skills were all on full display, underlining his readiness to adapt quickly to Liverpool’s demanding playing style under head coach Arne Slot.

According to his numbers, the 24-year-old is arriving at Anfield with serious potential. Frimpong was one of the strongest runners in the Bundesliga in 2024-25, making 1,021 sprints, 2,116 intensive runs, registered a maximum speed of 36.34 km/h, and covered a distance of 259.6km over 33 games.
Liverpool’s 2025/26 pre-season training was initially scheduled for the first week of July, but was postponed to allow players and staff time to process the tragic loss of former forward Jota and his brother Andre Silva. The club have emphasised the importance of mental wellbeing during this difficult period, granting extra time off to players who were due back on July 4th.
Still, Liverpool are committed to moving forward and preparing for the upcoming campaign. Frimpong, along with the rest of the squad, will begin pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre on July 8th.
The Reds’ summer schedule includes a trip to Asia, where they will face AC Milan in Hong Kong on July 26 and Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan on July 30.
The team is also reportedly set to kick off their pre-season matches with a fixture against Championship side Preston North End on July 13, although confirmation of this game remains pending given the current circumstances.
Frimpong will find comfort among familiar faces in the Liverpool squad, joining Netherlands internationals Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Speaking recently about his move, Frimpong said, “I spoke to the manager a few times, he’s very positive. He believes I can bring energy and speed, and when a manager talks like that about you, it gives you a lot of confidence.”
The Dutch full-back’s readiness and positive mindset provide a welcome boost for Liverpool as they prepare to defend their Premier League title. His commitment to hitting the ground running highlights the professionalism expected within the club, especially in a season shadowed by loss.
While the grief over Jota’s passing will undoubtedly linger, Liverpool are focused on building unity and resilience as they embark on the 2025/26 season. Frimpong’s early work in training and eagerness to integrate into the squad will be key factors as the Reds look to maintain their dominance in English football.
