Liverpool’s recently departed goalkeeper coach Fabian Otte has joined Tottenham Hotspur as they continue to finalise Thomas Frank’s backroom staff ahead of the 2025–26 season.
Tottenham have made a notable addition to their backroom staff ahead of the forthcoming campaign, appointing Fabian Otte as their new first-team goalkeeping coach. The 34-year-old joins Spurs from Liverpool, where he spent just a single season before departing as part of a wider coaching reshuffle under Reds boss Arne Slot.
Otte arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2024, becoming the Reds’ first staff appointment under Slot, who had not previously worked with the Dutchman. Despite his short stay, Otte played a key role in Liverpool’s title winning season, working closely with goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher — who has now left Liverpool to join Premier League side Brentford on a permanent transfer for an initial £12.5m that could rise to £18m with performance related add ons.
The German coach came to Liverpool after spells at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hoffenheim, Burnley, and the U.S. national team, where he balanced international duties with club responsibilities before fully committing to the Premier League.
However, a fortnight ago Liverpool announced Otte has left the club alongside veteran Brazilian coach Claudio Taffarel. The departures of both men made room for the return of Xavi Valero, who previously worked at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez.
Tottenham confirmed Otte’s arrival in an official statement, calling the move a significant part of their continued coaching revamp:
“We welcome Cameron Campbell as First Team Individual Development Coach and Fabian Otte as First Team Goalkeeper Coach – they arrive following spells at RB Leipzig and Liverpool respectively.”
Otte is set to replace Rob Burch, who had joined the club in 2023 alongside manager Ange Postecoglou. He will now work under Thomas Frank, who is preparing for his first season in charge at Tottenham after his surprise switch from Brentford.
At Spurs Otte will be responsible for developing and managing first-team goalkeepers Guglielmo Vicario, Brandon Austin, and Antonin Kinsky,
Widely respected within football circles, Otte is considered one of the most forward-thinking goalkeeping coaches in Europe.
Meanwhile at Liverpool, the goalkeeping group is undergoing changes of its own. Alisson remains first choice, now joined by Giorgi Mamardashvili, while Freddie Woodman steps up as third choice, who joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Championship side Preston North End.
Tottenham will hope Otte brings the same elite standards that saw him succeed at Liverpool to North London.
