Luis Díaz has opened up about ongoing negotiations regarding his Liverpool future, admitting that talks are taking place with other clubs amid increasing speculation over a potential summer exit from Anfield.
The Colombian winger has been at the centre of transfer interest throughout the summer, with both Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and La Liga champions Barcelona reportedly making him a ‘priority target’. Despite Liverpool rejecting an initial offer from Barcelona and publicly stating Díaz is not for sale, the 28-year-old has now acknowledged that discussions are underway behind the scenes.
Speaking during an interview for MARCA in his homeland with influencer La Liendra, Díaz confirmed:
“We’re there, negotiating. We’ll see what can happen for us and for the club. We’ll try to do our best and make the best decision.”
When asked specifically about reported interest from Barcelona he added:
“We’re in the process of negotiations, talking with the club, with Liverpool, with everyone who’s approaching us.”
The Premier League champions have already made it clear that they do not want to sell Diaz this summer, but a new contract is not currently on the agenda for the either. Díaz only has two years left to run on his current deal, which suggests the Colombian wants clarity over his long term future, and that if Liverpool do not present a satisfactory offer for a new contract then he may consider alternatives.
Despite a standout 2024–25 campaign scoring 13 goals and providing 5 assists in the Premier League, second only to Mohamed Salah at the club, Díaz’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain. Reports from Germany via BILD claim he has already agreed personal terms in principle with Bayern Munich, who are now preparing a formal bid.
Barcelona, who missed out on top target Nico Williams, have also stepped up their interest, with Mundo Deportivo and Fabrizio Romano both reporting a renewed approach is imminent, despite the Catalan club’s financial struggles and registration concerns. Díaz’s father has previously said it would be a “dream” for his son to play at the Camp Nou, and the player himself is reportedly open to waiting for the right opportunity to leave.
According to The Athletic’s Pol Ballus, Díaz remains a top priority for Barcelona, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford viewed as a second option. However, Ballus notes that the Spanish giants are mindful of Liverpool’s current situation, especially following the tragic death of Diogo Jota last week.
The 28-year-old did not travel to Portugal for Jota’s funeral where majority of his team mates reunited to pay their respects to their now former team mate and friend he instead stayed in Colombia but paid tribute via his X account.
Díaz returned back on Merseyside on Monday ahead of Liverpool’s delayed pre-season return on Tuesday, with further discussions expected to take place with head coach Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes.
Despite Liverpool turning down approaches from both Bayern Munich and Barcelona, the noise around Díaz’s future refuses to quieten. His recent comments have only added fuel to the speculation and with negotiations ongoing behind the scenes, this is a transfer saga that’s far from over.
