Mohamed Salah’s career at Liverpool has been defined by rewriting records.
On Tuesday night in Manchester, Salah added another line to his legacy — the first player in history to win the PFA Men’s Player of the Year award three times.
At 33, the Egyptian remains the Premier League’s most formidable attacker, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists in the league last season as he finished top scorer once again. Across all competitions, those numbers rose to 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 appearances.
Last season wasn’t just a prolific, it was arguably his most complete and Salah’s peers agreed.
Voted for by fellow professionals, the PFA award is often regarded as the truest measure of respect within the game. Salah had previously shared the record with Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin De Bruyne.
But now Mohamed Salah stands alone.

Mohamed Salah described his pride after being named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for a record-breaking third time, following a season in which he inspired Liverpool to the Premier League title under Arne Slot.
After receiving the award from Liverpool icon Ian Rush, the club’s all-time leading scorer, Salah reflected on his journey from Egypt to the very top of the English game.
“It’s something that’s never happened in the Premier League, it’s something I will never forget and I will never take it for granted. So, I’m so glad about that.”
“It’s an incredible feeling. I want to thank everyone who voted for me. Doing this at the age of 33 is incredible. I remember ten years ago, I didn’t make it at Chelsea. When you go somewhere and you don’t make it, it’s always on your mind. I look at myself. A guy coming from Egypt, making it to the top level and making history.”
Salah, who also won the PFA award in 2017/18 and 2021/22, admitted this might have been his finest season yet in a Liverpool shirt.
“I think we had a great season and I also had my best season in the club, maybe in my career as well. To win the league, I’m glad we managed to do that, and hopefully it will continue this year. I found always a way to feel hungry and just need more.”
Earlier this year, Salah committed his future to Anfield by signing a new contract until 2027. Speaking about that decision, he explained his enduring hunger for success.
“I’m still very hungry — that’s why I signed for Liverpool (for) another two years. It’s great to play in the Premier League at that level. Also with my age, 33, you feel that you can give more and you can really make the difference always in each game.”
The award capped off a season in which Arne Slot’s Liverpool swept to their 20th league title, and that dominance was reflected across the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Six Liverpool players were selected in the season’s best eleven — Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and summer signing Milos Kerkez. They were joined by Arsenal’s William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Declan Rice, as well as Nottingham Forest pair Matz Sels and Chris Wood, and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
Mac Allister had been among the nominees for the main award, alongside Declan Rice, Alexander Isak, Bruno Fernandes and Cole Palmer, but it was Salah who collected the trophy on the night. Elsewhere, Morgan Rodgers of Aston Villa was named Men’s Young Player of the Year.
On the women’s side, Olivia Smith, now of Arsenal, was recognised as Young Player of the Year after a superb debut campaign at Liverpool, scoring 12 times before her world-record move to North London earlier this summer.
For Salah, though, this latest recognition felt inevitable. His numbers remain extraordinary, his influence unchanged. And now, with a third PFA Player of the Year award, he has entered territory no other player has reached.
Salah now turns his attention to Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash with Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Monday night, where he will look to add to the goal he scored on the opening weekend.
