England football legend Stuart Pearce has revealed which clubs he believes have a shot at winning the Premier League and his answer will please Liverpool supporters.
Liverpool are already off to a good start in the Premier League. Neither fixture so far has been easy, but Arne Slot’s team put four past Bournemouth and won away to Newcastle United.
Former Nottingham Forest defender Pearce is already backing Liverpool to retain their Premier League title and he believes they could be helped along the way by a couple of players currently linked with the club.
Speaking in recent interview, Pearce said the possible arrivals of Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi would be outstanding additions to Slot’s squad.
“I think Liverpool will win it [Premier League]. Liverpool have strengthened really well from winning the title.
If [Alexander] Isak arrives, that will make them even stronger, so that could be a huge advantage to come. There’s also been talk about Marc Guehi coming to Anfield, so that would be two more outstanding Premier League players in the squad for the season to come.”
Pearce has named three other teams who have a chance of winning the league, but believes one in particular could be Liverpool’s biggest threat — Chelsea.
“I think Chelsea will come second. I think the other two in with a shout are Manchester City and Arsenal. But it will be a great title race.
Chelsea are stronger this year. They’ve had the confidence of winning a couple of trophies as well. So that’s a big one for them. They’ve added to their squad and bought in some quality.
Across the board, I think it’s going to be really tight. Arsenal have improved the squad. City definitely have and Liverpool have too. I think those four will be in the top four places.”
Chelsea are looking stronger, particularly after winning the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup. However, they were held to a 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season against Crystal Palace. Subsequent victories over London rivals West Ham and Fulham see this nestled amongst the early leaders.
Liverpool are one of only two teams with a 100 percent winning record in the league, with Arsenal the only other sides to have both their matches.
This makes Liverpool’s next fixture all the more important, as they host Arsenal in what should be a thrilling encounter. The Gunners are yet to concede a goal and thrashed Leeds United 5-0 last weekend.
